Art in the Park at Cedarville

The Les Cheneaux Artisan Cooperative's Art in the Park in Cedarville returns for its seventh year Saturday, September 1.

The art fair and demonstrations will be from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the waterfront park in downtown Cedarville. Admission is free.

The program is sponsored by the Les Cheneaux Artisan Cooperative, and was designed to give spectators an opportunity to see live demonstrations of artists creating their works. It also gives local artists one of two Artisan Cooperative-sponsored markets in which they can sell their products each year.

In addition to art displays and demonstrations, Marty Feldhake will provide live music during the day.

Approximately 15 to 20 fine and performing artists are expected to participate in the event, including Arlene Thompson, Roxanne Eberts, Frank Aben, Pat and Paul Wilson, Nancy Stuhler, Julie Smith, Rick Shapero, Alice Schnyders, Norine Rudd, Jan Hougtling, Annegret Goehring, Elizabeth Fels, and Randy Dunn. Others may sign on through the week.

"The thing we want to highlight is that the artists will be demonstrating there, and this will be a great opportunity for people to see the artists in the creative process," cooperative member Randy Dunn said.

The Les Cheneaux Artisan Cooperative provides support and marketing opportunities for locally made products and their makers. The cooperative has more than 40 members from the Les Cheneaux, Pickford, and DeTour areas, and about half plan to be in the show.

"For the seventh year, we will be continuing a tradition of celebrating local art, and providing an event to round out the summer season and wind-down," said Rick Shapero of the cooperative.

There will be no food concessions at the event because the cooperative prefers to encourage visitors to support nearby businesses that sell food.
