Sixty cupcakes were sold for $5 each during the auction. Only two contained rings, valued at $40. This year, the annual auction, which featured about 70 donated items, raised approximately $3,000 for Lions Club projects, including local scholarships. A phone call was received from Mary Visnaw last week. Ms. Visnaw grew up in Cedarville, where she is a resident to this day. She is the oldest daughter of Pearl and Tom Visnaw, and niece of the late Goldie and Lawrence Blair. It was an interesting conversation, as we updated each other on relatives.

Mary St. Antoine of St. Ignace, manager of Environmental Science Labs at Lake Superior State University, visited Mackinac Island Tuesday, May 6.

Ms. St. Antoine was pleased to be one of the judges for the third, fourth, and fifth grades for the local science fair.

The Mackinac Straits Hospital Auxiliary's annual geranium sale will be Friday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the St. Ignace Greenhouse.

The Holiday gas station on US-2 reports a recent retirement of a fine employee. Bev Helfrich of Trout Lake had been employed with the company for the last 15 years. She will be missed by co-workers and customers.

Happy 20th wedding anniversary to Bruce and Mary St. Antoine May 20.

Reddmanns' campground, on Gorman Road, is now open for the season.
