Raymond ‘Ray’ Rushford

Raymond "Ray" M. Rushford, 65, of Lakefield Township, died Saturday, December 25, 2010, at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey following a four-year illness.

He was born November 18, 1945, in Manistique, to William and Edna (nee Zenker) Rushford.

He was a 1964 graduate of Engadine High School.

He married Carolyn Gehrett July 11, 1964.

While residing in Mancelona, he was employed at Beckman Oil Productions of Kalkaska, and later at Halliburton in Mancelona for 16 years.

Mr. Rushford moved to the Curtis area in 1987. He was selfemployed as a carpenter for almost 20 years, until his retirement. He enjoyed ice fishing, home improvements, and camping.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, whom he married November 18, 2003 in Traverse City; two daughters and their families, Cherri and Robert Mosey of Lowell and Cindy and Phil Stagg of Cadillac; two stepchildren, Tommy Gendron and Tammy Gendron, both of Newberry, and nine grandchildren and their families, Amy and Andy Tzortzinis, Ryan and Niqe Mosey, Kevin and Rhea Stagg, Andrew Stagg, Wesley Stagg, Nathan Stagg, Luke Stagg, Dynah Gendron, and Makayla Wolf. He also is survived by seven siblings and their families, Jan and Rich Pershinske of Engadine, Fred and Janet of Nashville, Russell of Curtis, Ron of Gould City, Jeannie Matchinske of Charlotte, North Carolina, Jane and LeRoy Stefanich of Gould City, and Julie and Bob Freeman of Engadine, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, William, in 1989, and his mother, Edna, in 2007.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 29, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry, and also at Curtis Baptist Church Thursday, December 30, from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Services will be at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Greg Carlson officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Forest Home Cemetery in Newberry.
