Hesser, Horsburgh Married at Grand Hotel

Kristin and Blake Horsburgh Kristin and Blake Horsburgh Kristin Elizabeth Hesser and Blake Jenkins Horsburgh were united in marriage Saturday, July 16, 2011, in the Tea Garden at Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. The bride’s uncle, Reverend Larry Bussard, officiated the ceremony. The theme from “Somewhere in Time” was part of the processional, played by a harpist. The couple’s godmothers, Anne Woolsey and Barb Wojtila both gave words of advice to the couple. A family friend, Marc Michaelson, played his guitar and sang, “Marry Me” after the vows were exchanged.

The bride is the daughter of Tina and Bo Hesser of Les Cheneaux Islands and the groom is the son of Chris and Chrissy Horsburgh, also of Les Cheneaux Islands. The bride is the granddaughter of Grant and Joanie Hesser, and the groom is the grandson of Ken and Ruth Horsburgh, also from Les Cheneaux Islands.

The four parents presented the bride and groom for marriage.

The bride, her attendants, and the father of the bride came to the Tea Garden in a Grand Hotel horsedrawn carriage. The groom, groomsmen, and parents of the groom arrived by horse-drawn carriage from the Chippewa Hotel.

The bride wore a flowing gown of ivory silk and pearl beads. Her bouquet was ivory roses, lilies, and pink rose accents. Sprigs of cedar were in the arrangements. The handle of her bouquet was wrapped with the baby bonnet that she wore home from the hospital as a newborn. She wore her mother’s veil of Alencon lace, her mother’s pearl necklace, and the topaz ring of her grandmother, Betty Maescher. The bride carried a sixpence belonging to her great-grandmother, Lucie Maescher, in her shoe and used the Bible of her grandmother, Christine Weekley.

Maid of honor was Bethany Howell of the Les Cheneaux Islands, and bridesmaids were Annie Barrett, Katie Fellows, Emily Geier, Katie Painter, Emily Sberna, Jessica Schuman, Erin Tapke, Mary Horsburgh, Elizabeth Horsburgh, and Heidi Schellhas. They wore hot pink silk dresses and carried bouquets of roses.

Joe Tichar of Cleveland, Ohio, was the best man. Groomsmen were Chris Biggar, Grant Hesser, Whit Hesser, Andrew Horsburgh, Chase Horsburgh, Pat Horsburgh, Nathan Guntzelman, and Lewie Trahey. They wore navy blazers, khakis, boat shoes, and pink bow ties.

The couple’s dogs attended, with Zeta wearing hot pink roses and Porter wearing a bow tie.

A champagne reception immediately followed the ceremony on Grand Hotel’s East Porch with a jazz quartet. Dinner and dancing followed in Grand Hotel Theatre.

The couple stayed in the Les Cheneaux Islands after the wedding. A trip is planned for later in the year.

The bride, who has a master’s degree from Ohio University, is an intervention specialist at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. The groom, who has a bachelor’s degree from Ohio University and a degree from Siebel Institute of Technology, is a brewer at Rivertown Brewing Company of Cincinnati. They reside in Hyde Park, Ohio, with their dogs.
