Walter ‘Jim’ Fischer

Walter R. “Jim” Fischer, 83, of Trout Lake, passed away Monday morning, October 22, 2012 at Cedar Ridge Assisted Living in St. Ignace.

He was born October 31, 1928, in Kennen, Wisconsin, to Joseph and Freda Fischer. The family came to Trout Lake early in his childhood, where he remained his entire life.

He married Shirley Immel June 24, 1950, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Trout Lake.

Mr. Fischer worked for Cloverland Electric as a lineman for 37 years, retired, and went back as a contract supervisor for Cloverland’s tree trimming and clearing gang. Also, Mr. Fischer served a term as trustee for Trout Lake Township. In his retirement, he loved woodworking and having coffee with his neighbors, Brenda and John Eby and Sam. Mr. Fischer always had a friendly smile and will be missed for his quiet ways.

He is survived by two daughters, Chari Fischer and Gary Shumbarger and Mary and David Sharp, and brother Joe and Helen Fischer, all of Trout Lake; brothers-in-law; Pat Wyers of St. Ignace and Dale and Treva Immel of Newberry, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; two brothers, Robert and Leo Fischer, and one sister, Marion Burgess.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 24, at Caffey Cemetery with Pastor Arthur Bodi officiating.

Memorials may be directed to the Trout Lake Fire Department building fund with envelopes available from Dodson Funeral Home.
