Engadine & Gould City

A yoga class will be offered Thursday, June 26, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Erickson Center for the Arts in Curtis. Cost is $8 per class, and drop-ins are welcome.

The seventh annual Above the Bridge Songwriter’s Weekend will be Thursday, June 26, through Sunday, June 29, at Chamberlin’s Ole Forest Inn in Curtis. The event is sponsored by Erickson Center for the Arts. The all-inclusive weekend will feature award winning musicians and songwriters. Workshop participants will perform Thursday and Friday evenings at Chamberlin’s Ole Forest Inn. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Music in the Park will be Saturday, June 28, at 6:30 p.m. at the Erickson Center Park in Curtis featuring original works performed by composers David Rossiter, John Lantini, Jamie- Sue Seals, and Annie and Rod Capps.

A fireworks fundraiser golf tournament will be Saturday, June 28, at 1 p.m. at the Hiawatha Club Golf Course in Naubinway. Entry fee is $30 per person. Shotgun start is at 1 p.m. A picnic after the tournament is included in the cost. There will also be raffles and a $10,000 Hole in One contest. The event is sponsored by Top of the Lake Communities Association. To pre-register for the tournament, call (906) 477-6298.

The Naubinway Kiddie Parade, an annual event for Independence Day festivities in Naubinway, will be Thursday, July 3, at 6 p.m. Kids’ games will follow at the pavilion.

The 32nd annual Black Bear Run is Friday, July 4, in Engadine. The race begins at 9 a.m. at Engadine High School. For more information, contact Elmer Albright at (906) 748-1364.

The Blessing of the Fleets will be Friday, July 4, at the Naubinway Marina beginning at 10 a.m. Audience members should bring their own chairs. The event this year will be held in honor of Dave Frazier.

Naubinway’s “A Star Spangled Parade” will be Friday, July 4, at 1 p.m. There will be a carnival at the Naubinway pavilion from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and at 1:30 p.m. you won’t want to miss seeing a local young man, David Slack, and Racing Car #30. Fireworks will be shown at dusk.

A free movie, “The Lego Movie,” will be shown Saturday, July 5, at 10 p.m. on Lake Street on Lake Michigan in Naubinway. Audience members should bring a chair or blanket.

The 41st annual Curtis Independence Day parade will be Sunday, July 6, at 12:30 p.m. Grand Marshal will be Karl Bohnak, meteorologist and author of “So Cold a Sky: Upper Michigan Weather Stories.” Arts and crafts booths will open at 10 a.m., and the Lions Club chicken barbecue will start at 11 a.m. Fireworks will be at dusk.

Condolences to the family of Reverend Harry Fisher of Engadine, who passed away Thursday, June 12. Please keep his wife, Aleta, their children, family, and friends in your thoughts and prayers. Mr. Fisher was a kind and caring man, who always had a smile on his face and a hug to give. An obituary was published in the June 19 issue of The St. Ignace News.
