Summary of Council Proceedings

October 3, 2016

The Regular Council Meeting convened at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 3, 2016, in the Council Chambers at City Hall with Mayor Litzner presiding.

Public comment was received from Dean Reid and Betsy Dayrell-Hart regarding the boarding house issue.

Council received a presentation from Sheriff Strait on the new jail proposal on the November ballot.

Council accepted the recommendation from City Attorney Evashevski that the property split request from Mike Lilliquist be addressed by the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Council approved the Election Inspectors for the November Election.

Council approved the recommendation of Chief of Police Wilk to deny a taxi driver application.

City Manager Therrian reported that no bids were received for the renovation of the front steps of City Hall. Rebidding will be done in February of 2017.

City Manager Therrian reviewed the 2 percent requests submitted to the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians.

City Manager Therrian presented an anticipated 2017 General Fund budget to Council for review.

Mayor Pro-Tem Paquin requested that a Street Committee meeting and Policy/ Personnel Committee meeting be scheduled to discuss plans for future street improvements and guidelines for hiring a New City Manager, as well as addressing DPW personnel.

Mayor Litzner scheduled work sessions for the second Monday of each month to address upcoming issues and budget.

Council approved a Resolution on housing.

Mayor Litzner shared a letter of appreciation for the new Marina Director and staff.

Councilmember Clapperton voiced his concern in regards to establishing a Zoning Administrator.

Councilmember Tremble, on behalf of Maverick, inquired on the status of final payment for the WWTP project. Public Comments were received from: Bob Fraser regarding final payment of the WWTP project, Clyde Hart informed Council on the scheduled meeting with the Small Harbor Initiative for a vision session, and Tom Della-Moretta commented on the transition process for hiring.

Council considered and approved bills in the amount of $16,723.27.

The next Regular Council Meeting will be held on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
