Gibson Resigns From LSSU Board

Judge Beth Gibson of the Mackinac County 92nd District Court resigned from the Lake Superior State University Board of Trustees, only days after she was appointed for an eight-year term by Governor Rick Snyder, citing separation of power under the state constitution.

She was appointed to the LSSU board Friday, January 5, and resigned by letter Tuesday, January 9, according to Governor Snyder’s press secretary, Anna Heaton.

The separation clause bans someone from exercising power related to multiple branches of the government at the same time. The state universities are part of the executive branch, while the courts belong to the judicial branch.
