Mackinac Island Winter Festival Is This Weekend

The 42nd annual Mackinac Island Winter Festival features two days of events, highlighted by a bonfire at noon Saturday, February 3, at Great Turtle Park. Admission to the event is $3 per person, or $12 per family. Hot dogs will be cooked over the open fire, while events start with snow golf, snow bowling, a snowmobile egg race, broom hockey, sledding, and additional games for children.

The theme for the annual cardboard sled contest is the Super Bowl, and everyone is welcome to participate with their own unique creation. Attendees will receive a special Winter

Festival button for the price of admission that is chosen from designs submitted by students from the Island school.

February 3, Mackinac Island State Park will host a Twilight Turtle Trek from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Participants meet at Greaney Grove to snowshoe, ski, or hike lantern-lit trails in the park.

The following morning, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., a brunch will be available at the school. The meal includes pancakes, eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, pastries, and fresh fruit. After that, entries for the Seasons of Mackinac Calendar photography contest will be available for viewing and voting at the Mackinac Island Public School library.

On Sunday afternoon, there will be events available for all ages at the school, including a silent auction and bake sale.

Youth activities include crafts, games, magic, and a cupcake walk. There is also a snowmobile poker run, bingo, and a raffle drawing planned for Sunday.

Great Turtle Park is off Third Street in Mackinac Island State Park. The school is at 7846 Main Street.
