Jacqueline Upham


Jacqueline Upham Jacqueline Upham Jacqueline Taylor Upham, 92, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 23, 2018.

The daughter of Percy and Ethel Taylor, she grew up in Pickford.

After she was graduated from Michigan State University, she married Stephen Pierce Upham, Jr. in 1947.

She and her husband made their home in Mount Vernon, Ohio, where she was active in numerous organizations, including The Homestead Club, Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, Psi Iota Xi Society, Garden Club, and Mount Vernon Country Club.

Summers were spent on the Great Lakes in Cedarville, where Mrs. Upham was a member of the Les Cheneaux Yacht Club. Her annual croquet parties were anticipated by many in the Les Cheneaux Islands area. Houseguests could always look forward to a boat trip to Mackinac Island, picnics, and relaxing dinners by the lake.

Her interests were cooking, playing bridge, and hosting parties for friends and family. Traveling was another interest and she thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with family and friends on various adventures. Mrs. Upham had skied the Swiss Alps, had high tea in Dubai, and at the age of 88, even explored the Great Wall of China.

Affectionately known as “BJ” by her family, they said, she was a true lady and gracious host.

She is survived by a daughter and her family, Stephanie Lord of Naples, Florida; a son and his family, Stephen III and Beth Upham of Saratoga Springs, New York; three granddaughters, Carissa Lord and her fiancé, Travis Mills of East Providence, Rhode Island, Heather and Greg Kelly of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Laura Upham of Boulder, Colorado; a grandson, Pierce and Nina Lord of Hoboken, New Jersey, and three young greatgranddaughters, Stella and Adelie Lord of Hoboken and Ella Kelly of Charlotte.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Upham was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen, and a brother, Clark Taylor.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Ohio.
