Bays, Blue Devils Claim Wins Over Rudyard Bulldogs

By John Raffel

The Rudyard Bulldogs boys basketball team entered last week with a 3-7 record overall and 2-3 in the Straits Area Conference. The Bulldogs lost 55-40 to Sault Marie at home Thursday, January 18.

“We were shorthanded as only eight players were available from the 11-man team,” Rudyard Coach Mike Bitnar said. “Injuries and illness left Rudyard shorthanded, including our point guard Robert Malaski, out due to injury. We came out playing hard defense.”

After one quarter it was 8-6 in favor of Sault Ste. Marie.

“Our team never gave up and narrowed the lead to 10 points late in the fourth quarter,” Coach Bitnar said.

Rudyard was led by Paul Steikar with 11 points, Dylan Mills with 10, and Gavin Smith with 10.

Rudyard lost to the Brimley Bays 81-41 Monday, January 15. Brimley had quarter leads of 14-8, 33- 19, and 57-26. Mills scored 15 points for Rudyard. Steiker had nine points.
