Mackinaw City Comets Girls Shut Down Alba

The Mackinaw City girls basketball team picked up a Northern Lakes Conference victory Thursday, January 25, by besting Alba 71-18 at home. The Comets (9-3, 5-1) led most of the game.

The game was close during the first quarter, with Mackinaw City holding a 14-9 advantage as it concluded. The Comets scored 30 points in the second to take control of the contest and their large advantage continued throughout the second half.

Mackinaw City’s junior varsity team was also victorious Thursday as it defeated Burt Lake Northern Michigan Christian Academy 54-17. The JV squad improved to 9-0 with the win.

Comets varsity statistics: Kameryn Hartman, 17 points, seven steals; Sarah Morse, 13 points; Samantha Somers, 12 points; Haley Jones, 11 points; Calysta Bell, 10 points; Mya Curth, six points; Terralyn Tarrant, two points.

Comets junior varsity statistics: Marlie Postula, 20 points; Madison Smith, 14 points; Gabi Bell, 11 points; Raeann Hingston, nine points.
