Rudyard Swimmers To Compete in Marquette

By John Raffel

Rudyard’s swimming team competed at Marquette the weekend of January 13 and 14. No team scores were kept, said Coach Stephen Davis, and the preceding scheduled meets had been canceled owing to poor weather.

At Marquette, Emilee Curtis was seventh in the 50-yard breaststroke (37.89). Also seventh was the 200- yard medley relay team of Tori Trombley, Curtis, Desta McDowell, and Alyssa Cloud (2:16).

The Rudyard Bulldogs also swam in Manistique Wednesday, January 10. Sault Ste. Marie was also there.

The meet results for the girls were: Sault first (108), Rudyard second (85), and Manistique third (62). Boys results: Sault (134), Manistique (83), Rudyard (11).

“Cara Sawyer had a great meet,” Coach Davis said. “She is really improving and working hard. She dropped over 25 seconds in her 500 freestyle. Emilee Curtis got first in the 100 breast stroke, Desta McDowell first in the 100 freestyle, and Tori Tremblay finished first in the 100 fly.”

The relay team of Tremblay, Curtis, Sawyer, and McDowell placed first, also.

“Overall, it was a good meet to get back in the pool,” Coach Davis said. “We have had horrible luck with meets being canceled due to weather this year. Our times were a little off because Manistique does not have starting blocks, so swimmers start in the water. The team has been working hard to achieve our goals and are looking forward to the next few weeks of competition.”
