Saints Girls Remain First in Latest UPSSA Polls

The Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association (UPSSA) released its weekly basketball polls Tuesday, January 23. The weekly polls are conducted by a seven-person panel of UPSSA members as approved by its general membership. The panel votes for its top five teams in Class ABC and Class D from the U.P. After wins over Frankfort and Cheboygan, the St. Ignace girls remain in the top spot of Class ABC and picked up an additional first place vote this week. The Cedarville girls gained seven points and moved up a spot to claim third in Class D, and the Trojans boys remain fifth, but did earn a first place vote from one of the panelists. In the Michigan Associated Press polls, St. Ignace is ranked second overall in Class C. The Trojans girls are ranked 11th, just shy of breaking the top 10 in class D.
