St. Ignace Midget Team Picks Up a Pair of Wins

Coach Allen Mitchell continues to see steady improvement from his St Ignace Squirts hockey team, who lost its most recent game, 11-1, to Soo Bulson Sunday, January 28.

The team hasn’t picked up the first win yet, but has had two ties.

“We have a couple of kids putting quite a few goals in,” Coach Mitchell said.

Dylan Shepard had a goal in the loss to Soo Bulson. For the season, he has 19 goals and four assists. Garrett Martin had nine goals and nine assists. Carter Kovacs had five goals and five assists.

“We’re gong into our districts weekend and one of the two teams we tied is the first team we play,” Coach Mitchell said. “I’m hoping we can get over the hump. We’ll have a game this Friday and two games this coming Saturday.”

The St. Ignace Midget team lost 4-3 to M&M Thunder Sunday in the Marinette Civic Center. St. Ignace beat Shawano on Saturday, January 27, 5-3 and beat SAW 8-5 earlier in the day.

Hunter DeKeyser continues to lead the team in scoring with 32 goals and 18 assists, while Andy Metz had 16 goals and 32 assists and Logan DeKeyser had 17 goals and 27 assists.

The Pee Wee team is 16-7-1 and hasn’t played since January 19. The next game is Saturday, February 3, against Alpena Green.

Leading scorers have been Carson Bigger with 75 goals and 26 assists; Brendan Insley with 37 goals and 23 assists; Jake Danielson with six goals and 21 assists; Cody Lane with eight goals and 17 assists; Ethan Shepard with 13 and 11 assists, and Colt Lane with eight goals and 15 assists.
