Trojans Respond With Win After Loss to Saints

Cedarville’s 10-game winning streak was snapped with a loss to St. Ignace in the “Pink Game,” January 23, but the Trojans responded nicely with a big win of their own over the Brimley Bays, 61-27, Thursday, January 25, in Cedarville. Both of Cedarville’s losses came at the hands of St. Ignace, and Brimley had the unfortunate task of being the Trojans’ next opponent after each loss. Cedarville came away with the win, just as it did in the first matchup with the Bays in December.

“I told the team that we were putting the St. Ignace game in the rearview and focusing on what is ahead of us,” said Trojans Coach Ryan Wilson.

Cedarville came out strong from the opening tip, holding Brimley to just two first-quarter points, outscoring the Bays 17-2. A 19-12 second quarter advantage extended the lead to 36-14 at halftime. The Trojans continued to play strong defense in the second half, outscoring the Bays 25-13, securing their 12th victory of the season and remaining undefeated in the Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference (5-0).

Senior Mackenzie Barr had a game-high 13 points and nine rebounds. She also added three steals. Sophomore Lily Freel scored 12 points, including two three-point field goals and a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line, and had five steals. Kendra Carrick led the Bays with eight points.

Cedarville (12-2, 5-0 EUP) will hit the road for its next two games, Thursday, February 1, at Rudyard, and Thursday, February 8, at De- Tour. The Trojans’ next home game will be against Sault Ste. Marie Tuesday, February 13.

Brimley (2-9, 1-4 EUP) will host Engadine February 1 and St. Ignace February 8.
